Dr. Elisabeth Weinek

In quite a curious way I started collecting books end of the seventies. In a small antiquarian bookstore in Linz, there lied in the window display a book of an author, unknown to me at that time, named Sternheim. The little novel was called “Ulrike”. But more than the author, the formal simplicity of the black paper cover with the colored title plate appealed to me. This was the first time, I met the Kurt Wolff edition and its legendary series “Der jüngste Tag” (i.e. the latest day). After reading, regarding the book, I saw that it carried a number, and I got curious. From that point onwards, I asked in every antiquarian book store, if they had some booklets of the series “Der jüngste Tag”. Mostly I was told, they were sorry but the section with theology has been disbanded or they are in storage. A bibliography did not exist back then.

More than twenty five years have passed this then. My wife and I now own the antiquarian bookstore in Linz since quite some time. In Salzburg we started in 1986 a small antiquarian bookstore in Steingasse 21, 16 square meters, a vaulted shop at the Kapuzinerberg, one of the house mountains of Salzburg. Ten years later we moved within the street to the numbers 14 and 16, and can now show our books and graphics on 140 square meters. In the eighties I regularly browsed the flea markets, bought and sold, to cover our studies at the university.  Adventures have been undertaken together with my wife. Fondly we remember colleagues, who sheltered us then, in Switzerland, France or Germany. Our search for good books led us up to Bucharest. Incredible adventures had to be passed, all day long closed in cold and dirty book storages e.g., but sometimes the fantasy helped along too. Searching long in dirt and dust were earned with a trouvaille at the most improbable places. Such travels have to be planed quite well, because our three children have to be looked after, who since 1988 enrich our lives.
Since 1997 we are accessible for our clients via internet. This amenity caused quite a cesura within the antiquarian book business and upended quite a few things. Some prices collapsed dramatically, others climbed exorbitant, the electronically orders gained the upper hand and today dialogues will be done via e-mail. But then real collectors are still coming for conversations and cede such talk not to the mouse click. In 1998 we were joint by Ms Silke Mellin. She helped us with the electronically upgrading, the recherché and with the sale. Together we are a good team.
We are specialized in literature, art and photography, but for years we carry books of all collecting areas or categories. You can choose something about the Antarctica, as well as you can find something about zeppelins.
We produced within the last years some catalogues, which you are able to order by clicking below, if interested.

At two fairs we face up to the international business: January each year at the prominent Stuttgart Antiquarian Fair and October the Frankfurt Book Fair, which since 2005 provides the antiquarian sector their own hall. As members of ILAB – International League of Antiquarian Booksellers – we are committing ourselves to the codex of this body, which is internationally dedicated to the care of books and whose motto is also ours: “Amor librorum nos unit”.
